Gabriel Gates
Founder of Gates Media

Dating Back to the Civil War

It all started with Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. On the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 2, 1863, Colonel Chamberlain and the 20th Maine held the extreme left flank of the Union line against a fierce rebel attack at Little Round Top. And on his first day of social studies class in sixth grade Gabriel Gates was assigned the task of creating a poster about that battle in 1863. However, he didn't want to make a poster - he wanted to make a website.

It was the early 90's and seeing as Al Gore had just invented the internet HTML books were still in short supply. Yet Gabriel managed to track one down and after two weeks of late nights typing HTML code into word documents he finished the website and proudly presented it to the "ooh's" and "ahh's" of his classmates ("Woah - look! It's scrolling!)

Since then things have changed. Al Gore stepped-back some of his comments and HTML books now pack bookshelves around the world. And after a few years of experience Gabriel, no longer requiring the aid of HTML books, founded his own web design company in Camden, Maine: Gates Media.

The company has proven to be quite successful - acquiring such notable clients as New York Times Bestselling Author Tess Gerritsen and award-winning maple syrup producer Maine Gold. Throughout the past few years Gates Media accompanied Tess Gerritsen through two successful bestselling book releases (Vanish and the Mephisto Club) and helped Maine Gold double its online sales for the 2006 holiday season.

Currently expanding in the Cambridge, Mass and Camden, Maine areas Gates Media is hiring aspiring young web designers and taking on new clients.
